Clinical Guard at the 2009 Florida Nurses Association Conference

September 23rd, 2009

Some of the folks at Clinical Guard headed down to the Sunshine State earlier this month to partake in the Florida Nurses Association’s Centennial Conference. Held in St. Pete Beach, Florida, the FNA Conference is focused on serving and supporting all registered nurses through professional development, advocacy and the promotion of excellence at every level of professional nursing practice. As a first year sponsor of the FNA Conference, we were pleased to participate and contribute to the educational development of medical professionals.

As a pioneer to the profession, Florence Nightingale paved the way for all of our present day nurses by laying the foundation for nursing education. Through her work at infirmaries and, more notably, in the Crimean War, Nightingale gained a reputation that preceded her. Longing to amp her skills, American born Linda Richards trained under Nightingale for seven months in England. Upon her return to America, she become known as America’s first professionally trained nurse who became another notable pioneer to the profession.

While are far from medical professionals, Clinical Guard is centered around bringing the highest quality health monitoring equipment at the most affordable price while providing top-notch customer service to industry professionals. Products like thermometers, peak flow meters, blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, nebulizers and more are available on our website.

As advocates of self monitoring and preservation, we support all nursing students and professionals for their commitment to others by promoting health awareness.

Which is the best Oximeter for me?

July 16th, 2009

With over a dozen separate models to choose from, ClinicalGuard.com offers the greatest variety of Pulse Oximeters for sale on the internet. Why are there so many models? Each one of our products has its own set of unique features. In the coming weeks, we will start publishing a series called “Focus On” that will highlight the unique features of each and everyone of our products.

You may have read the articles on our website explaining the principles of Pulse oximetry, how a pulse oximeter works and takes the measurements. Now, you may be looking for a little more detail on what are the differences among our products. This entry will hopefully provide an overview of the different types of oximeters available and their different purposes.

In general, there are three types of pulse oximeters. Stationary, Handheld oximeters, and Fingertip oximeters. The Stationary Pulse Oximetry systems are mainly used by hospitals as a part of a stack of patient monitoring devices. Due to these products’ specific focus on the Critical Care industry, ClinicalGuard.com currently does not carry them at this time. Instead, ClinicalGuard.com carries both Handheld and Fingertip Pulse Oximeters.

Handheld Pulse Oximeters. Handheld Pulse Oximeters usually consist of a base unit plus a finger probe. Having a base unit allows the versatility of having different types of finger probes be attached to the device. Ranging from Infant, Adult, One-time use, etc, a full set of finger probes allow easy swapping out based on the usage demand. The base unit can be placed in a secure place away from the user in setings where he or she has limited mobility.

Other features of this type of oximeter may include:

  • Dual-power support for AC and DC
  • Larger backlit onscreen display
  • Memory to record measurements
  • Printout to paper
  • Connection to PC to download data

Not all of these functions are available on every handheld device, and the price will tend to be more expensive as the devices increase in complexity.

Handheld Oximeter models carried by ClinicalGuard.com include BCI 3301 Hand Held Pulse Oximeter, Handheld Pulse Oximeter OctiveTech 300AH, Handheld Pulse Oximeter OLED OctiveTech 300IH.

Fingertip Pulse Oximeters. Due to the size of the Handheld Pulse Oximeters, their use in some applications may be limited. For such situations, a smaller-sized product known as a Fingertip Pulse Oximeter may be more suitable. By incorporating the circuit board, power supply and display into the finger probe, a compact unit containing all the components required to obtain a oxygen saturation and pulse rate reading is perfect for situations where portability is a must.

Most Finger Pulse Oximeters also have very simple one-button operation. Just insert your finger, press the button, and go. After only a few seconds the reading will be displayed on the screen. The ultra-portable nature of the fingertip style oximeters make them a popular choice for home use, physicians, nurses, paramedics, and others who are on the go. The non-prescription varieties are also used extensively by pilots, athletes, climbers, and others who engage in activities where monitoring the blood oxygen level is important. Although the display on fingertip pulse oximeters is limited by the smaller form factor, there are units available in our store with backlighting and organic-LED display technologies that significantly improve the readability in all lighting conditions.

Fingertip pulse oximeters from ClinicalGuard.com include Finger Pulse Oximeter OctiveTech 300C, Pulse Oximeter OctiveTech 300CSE - Heavy Duty, Finger Pulse Oximeter OctiveTech 300PRO, CMS-50E OLED Fingertip Pulse Oximeter, Pediatric Pulse Oximeter OctiveTech 300PN, Nonin 9500 Onyx Finger Pulse Oximeter, and many more

The Fluke Biomedical Index 2 Optical Simulator

December 9th, 2008

What does a retailer of Finger Pulse Oximeters have to do with Fluke Biomedical? What does an Optical Simulator do? In this article, we will go behind the scenes with ClinicalGuard.com’s Quality Assurance team and see how they help make sure that you, the customer get the highest quality products.

One of the most frustrating things that could happen to any customer who makes a purchase online is getting something that’s dead on arrival. To go through the ordeal of calling having to wait after sending a product back for exchange can dampen anyone’s mood. To minimize the chance of this happening to our customers, all our products are triple-tested. Each and every one of the products that we sell are tested three times before going out to our customers: the first time occurs when it leaves the factory, the second time when it arrives at our warehouse, and the third time when it gets shipped.

Why do we test our products so many times? To ensure that our customers receive a product in perfect working condition. The first test makes sure that there were no manufacturing defects. The second test ensures that no items were damaged while in shipping. The third test is our most elaborate test.

For the third test for Oximeter products, we use our Index 2 SpO2 Analyzer. The Index 2 SpO2 Analyzer is a Pulse Oximeter tester. The device allows simulating a human finger with varying levels of blood oxygen saturation, arterial bloodflow,  and pulse rates. Advanced functionality such as tap/shiver motion simulation helps us explore the impact that body motion has on the reading. As quoted from the manufacturer’s website

“The Index-2 is the industry standard SpO2 analyzer and is used by major manufacturers such as Nellcor, Masimo, Philips Medical Systems, Datex-Ohmeda, Criticare and other industry leaders. The Index-2 implements several patent-protected techniques for optical simulation and motion, including sixteen (16) motion pre-sets co-developed with both Masimo and Nellcor. Index-2 was the first SpO2 simulator to support Masimo technology and still is the only simulator on the market that combines both optical and electrical simulation with dynamic SpO2 sensor and probe testing in one portable test instrument.”

What does this mean for you, the customer? Not only does every oximeter we sell get tested for functionality, but also for accuracy and precision. This helps take the guesswork out of our quality assurance process, and further eliminate the possibility of product defects. By comparing the readings from each oximeter on the industry-leading analysis tool, we make sure that each and every pulse oximeter we sell is a product with quality we can stand behind.

ClinicalGuard.com Best Practices

December 8th, 2008

Hello and welcome to the ClinicalGuard.com Blog. In this entry, we will try to familiarize our customers with some of our business practices, and how we strive to meet the demands of our customers. ClinicalGuard is an online seller of home healthcare products, including the largest selection of Pulse oximeters in the North American area.

How do we ensure that the products we sell are of the best quality? It all starts with choosing the right vendor. When looking for a new product to carry in our online store, we look for three qualities: Great Reliability, Great Service, and Great Culture.

Great Reliability. In this day and age of global economy, products are designed, assembled, and shipped all over the world. This includes the products that are sold here at ClinicalGuard.com. Often, the vendor’s products are designed in the US and then manufactured in China using parts purchased from the US. This makes the reliability of the products very important. Each new product that we consider carrying in our inventory goes through a thorough vetting process, involving both our own quality assurance team and external customer feedback. Only when a product passes these tests do we deem it fit to carry the ClinicalGuard.com badge.

Great Service. The worst nightmare of anyone looking to purchase an item online is to buy something, and see the company disappear or their customer service not answer your calls. We at ClinicalGuard.com take pride in bringing our customers the best service possible. If we are unable to answer the question right away, we will find out the answer, from our vendors, from other experts, etc. We make sure that our vendors also provide the best service. Every once in a while, we conduct internal audits of the how the vendors respond to our requests and questions. By making sure that our experience with them is consistent, we help ensure your experience with us is consistent.

Great Culture. When you find something wrong with your product and try to bring that to the attention of your seller, do they get defensive? We at ClinicalGuard always try to honor the requests and ideas of our customers. If they have a great idea that could improve the product, we even help get that to our vendors. Through working with our manufacturers, we have helped improve upon the product packaging, instruction manual, ergonomics, etc. By picking vendors that not only listens to our suggestions, but is willing to make the changes to their products, ClinicalGuard.com helps spread a culture of continuous improvement throughout our organization as well as that of our vendors.

Through these principles, we at www.ClinicalGuard.com help make the most of your customer experience. From the moment you visit our site, to the moment you pick out the one you want, to the moment you receive it, and throughout its useful life,  we’re always there to help you!
